Rabuor Village Project believes that in order to successfully foster long-term positive change in rural communities, we must empower local residents to address their concerns in a comprehensive and sustainable way. All program activities are designed to ultimately become self-sustaining, and will serve as the foundation of a community development model that can be applied in other, similar settings throughout the world (read more about the Village By Village initiative).

Before RVP began its work in the village, a participatory needs assessment was conducted with a wide variety of residents and other local stakeholders. During this process, we identified a number of issues of great importance to the community and sought input on ways to address these issues. At the completion of the assessment, three broad program areas were identified.

Children & Education
Providing nursery school education, day care, and nutritional support to the growing ranks of children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS; supporting success in education through scholarships and support for children in primary and secondary schools.

Water & Health
Securing a reliable supply of clean water for human consumption as well as agriculture; advancing the development of the water system through well drilling, cisterns, pumping and distribution; supporting village health and wellness via a community pharmacy; providing HIV prevention, care and education through the training and support of community health workers and other forms of outreach.

Economic Development
Supporting efforts toward economic self-sufficiency through micro-loans and technical assistance to advance alternative forms of agriculture and innovative, community-driven micro-enterprise.
